Some of the activities available in the local area

 

Glen village itself contains The Glen Bar and Restaurant. It features a traditional style bar that has stood the test of time and to which people flock to for drinks, music and a good bit of craic. The restaurant is an outstanding establishment in the area and has earned it's reputation for excellent standards of food and service. The food is all local produce served with a modern twist in a fantastic old style cottage setting. In the summer, visitors are advised to go early in the evening to avoid disappointment

 

The area around the cottage is excellent spot for walking, hiking and cycling. There are walking guides available in the cottage detailing some of the popular trails in the area.


Lackagh Bridge

Trout fishing is available on Glen Lough as well as local boat rental. Salmon and Sea-Trout Fishing is at the nearby Lackagh River. Fishing permits for both are available locally from Cresslough Post Office. For more information please feel free to ask us.


Downings

The town of Downings is home of the fabulous Downings Beach and host to a number of great restaurants, bars and nightclubs. A popular holiday spot there is surfing, windsurfing and sailing available as well as lessons for beginners. At the Harbour sea angling is available as well as tours around the headland on local fishing boats.


Rossapenna Golf Course

There are 2 excellent 18 hole championship golf courses within a 5-mile radius of the property at  Rossapenna . It also has a driving range and pitch& putt.


Horse Riding in Dunfanaghy

Horse riding is available in the towns of Carrigart and Dunfanaghy for all ages and skill ranges.


Dunfanaghy

Another poular holiday spot this quaint little town has beautiful sandy beaches, traditional pubs and excellent restaurants. Only a 10 minutes drive away from Downings and is nearyby to both the Tramore strand and Marble hill beach.


Glenveagh Castle  Ards Forest Park

Other local attractions nearby include Glenveagh national park with Glenveagh castle that is maintained by the National Trust and open to the public most of the year round. It has stunning grounds and gardens and is home to the rare sight of Irish red deer and golden eagles.

 

The Dunlewey centre is situated close to Glenveagh National Park and is perfect for taking the kids for a day out. It contains a petting zoo of farmyard animals, a playpark, peddle boats, heritage park and offers a myths and legends boating trip around Glenveagh Lough explaining the ancient history of the area.

 

Ards Forest Park is another popular destination for serious walkers and normal wanderers alike. An excellent mountain biking area the forest is home to outstanding areas of beauty and hidden coves and beaches.

 

Doe castle situated on the Lackagh River is an ancient castle that has been recently restored, making is a fascinating destination for a day trip. Whether you want to wander the ancient ramparts or brave the spooky graveyard it is an excellent day out for the whole family.
